A search panel selected the chairman of Sealaska Corp., and four education officials, as finalist for the role of chancellor of University of Alaska Southeast. This branch is one of three major branches of University of Alaska System.
The university released Monday the shortlist for the job when Karen Carey , current chancellor, retires at June.

The UAS chancellor is the university’s chief executive officer. He will be appointed by Pat Pitney, University of Alaska President.
Pitney made a short statement online that the finalists were all chosen “from a pool diverse and highly-qualified candidates.”
UAS has a campus in Juneau as well as satellite campuses in Sitka and Ketchikan. It is home to approximately 2,000 students, 170 faculty and 170 staff.
Pitney stated that the five finalists will visit Sitka, Ketchikan, and Juneau campuses in late January/early February. A final selection will then be made, Pitney indicated.
