The United States Postal Service (USPS) filed a notice with the Postal Regulatory Commission, (PRC), regarding price changes that would take effect Jan. 22, 2023.
New rates include a three cent increase in the price for a First-Class Mail Forever Stamp from 60 to 63 Cents.
The Commission will approve the price increases. First-Class Mail prices will rise approximately 4.2 percent to offset inflation if the Commission is satisfied with the proposal. The Governors of the United States have approved the price increases. Postal Service
The cost of 1-ounce metered mail will rise to 60cs and that of domestic postcards will go up to 48cs. The cost of a 1-ounce letter sent to another country will rise to $1.45. The flat additional-ounce price and single-piece price will not change. They remain at 24 cents. The Postal Service also seeks price adjustments for Special Services products, including Certified Mail, Post Office Box rental fee, money order fees and cost of purchasing insurance when shipping an item.
These price adjustments, which are necessary to provide revenue for the Postal Service to attain the financial stability it seeks through its 10-year Delivering for America plan, help offset rising operating expenses. In October and December of last year, the United States Postal Service revealed several new stamp subjects to 2023.
The USPS does not receive any tax dollars to cover operating expenses. Instead, it relies on the sale and purchase of postage, products and services to fund.
