Tristan Brown tried to forget about the milestone he was so close to reaching, but it was hard with the student section counting down each point.
Senior Weaver became the latest member to the 1,000-point club on Thursday, when he scored three points in the second quarter of Ohatchee’s Bearcats in-school game. He disrupted the game-tying shot later and the Bearcats won with a 49 to 47 victory.
Brown had to score six points in order to reach this milestone. Brown scored 15 points and now has 1,009 points as the Bearcats enter the Calhoun County Tournament.
He said, “I didn’t know I was getting closer until maybe a few months ago.” “I read one of your articles, and it stated that I was getting very close to it. Then I got excited about it. Although I wasn’t sure I would be excited, I’m quite happy.
Officials stopped the game when the milestone point was reached through the hoops and acknowledged the achievement.
Brown scored all of his points in the first period, as the Bearcats led 31-17 at halftime. The Indians came back in the second period. They made four of five 3-pointers in quarter four and Weaver was never comfortable.
Beau Winn, Bearcats coach, said that “they took it to us.” Ohatchee did an outstanding job. It was fantastic to win the contest, but Bryant Ginn and his boys deserve my thanks. They played really hard. We were proud to win that victory and all the ways we did it.
Jesse Baswell made a corner 3-pointer to pull the Indians within one. Armane Burton scored a free throw at his end with four seconds remaining to make it 48-47. Burton finished the game with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Ohatchee’s Jake Roberson missed the last three seconds of the game, which would have put the Indians ahead. The Indians get the rebound, but Brown moves over to defend the shot and disrupts the off-balanced last shot.
Roberson scored 10 out of 15 points in the second period. Kelbe Crook, Roberson’s teammate, scored all eight points in the second half.
