Piedmont is represented on the school’s board for the high-profile Bulldogs sports Battles of the Bulldogs. Piedmont’s brand was there on Wednesday’s Calhoun County’s largest basketball court. Piedmont was able to get out to a large lead early on with hot shooting, and the Bulldogs responded to every Anniston uprising to win their county quarterfinal at Pete Mathews Coliseum 66-53.
Piedmont (16-33) reached the county semifinals for only the fourth time in four years. It hopes to reach its first final since 2010, and will be making it to the final. Anniston and Piedmont fought one of the best football games in the county, Anniston winning 30-28 despite Piedmont’s fourth quarter comeback. Anniston’s won boys’ basketball 68-63 against Piedmont on Dec. 17. But Piedmont turned the tables in the county tournament. What was the difference? Piedmont was playing its second tournament game and took a 14-3 lead. It led 25-11 at quarter break. Anniston was granted a bye to the quarterfinals because it was a top-four seed. Brown stated that Anniston came out looking hot and that a lot of it was due to them playing the previous day.
