Alabama Association of Resource Conservation and Development Councils will sponsor 30 workshops to provide resources for active-duty military veterans and their families at Alabama’s community colleges.

From Tuesday, January 24, to Tuesday, February 28, the ACCS Military and Veterans College and Career Workshops are being held at all state community colleges in every region. These workshops will be open to military active-duty, guardsmen and reservists as well as retirees and veterans. They will also provide information about the programs and services available through Alabama’s community college. These services include veteran’s service officers, veteran educational benefits, apprenticeships and career services, as well as credentials.

During a press conferment at the State House, Tuesday, January 10, 2018, Katie Conner, Alabama RC and D Executive Director, stated that the workshops will provide veterans in Alabama with valuable resources in a convenient location.

Conner stated that the Alabama Community College System’s proposal for workshops to assist veterans allows RC and D councils from every part of the state to provide essential information about education and employment options for those who have served so well for this country.

Maj. Gen. Sheryl Gordon, Adjutant Général of the Alabama National Guard, stated that Alabama’s military community has many valuable resources.

“There are many opportunities for service members in Alabama to achieve their professional and personal goals. I am thrilled to see so many of these programs being made available. Jimmy H. Baker is the Alabama Community College System’s Chancellor. He said that the System has made many efforts to work with organizations who have been successful in strengthening communities.

“Public community colleges were established many years ago in order to give veterans the opportunity to receive training near their homes. As the Alabama Community College System approaches 60 years, we know that we can make the greatest impact when we partner with entities that are dedicated to serving residents, businesses, and industries in our state,” Baker stated. “The partnership with Alabama RC&D confirms that we can work together to make the colleges’ resources available so we can continue serving those who have served our nation .”
