Crystal Worl, Juneau artist, says that the Postal Service’s Art Director was most attracted to her salmon designs. She was fine with it.


She said that she was always up for drawing a salmon. “I’m from Lukaax.adi, the salmon Sockeye clan, and I never get bored of drawing it in an alternate span>

Worl and Rico, her brother, put Lingit formline artwork on many things, including clothes, umbrellas, walls, and playing cards — the Juneau International Airport. Postal stamps. Rico Worl, a Lingit artist, was featured on a stamp in 2021. Crystal is now the next Lingit artist to be featured on a stamp.

She claims that her brother’s experience taught her how powerful it is to have Lingit art printed on a stamp.


Worl stated that he kept getting fan mail with the stamps attached. “Like postcards from all around using his stamp and saying thank you .”


To create the design, she had to use several art mediums: first, five different salmon formlines sketches and then a digital piece with various color options. They finally sent her a skateboard so she could paint the salmon design.


Worl stated that it was cool for them to paint the object.


She said that they could have the digital design superimposed over the artwork using span style=”font weight: 400 ;”>” They wanted an original .”

The Postal Service took a photograph of the skateboard being held by a model and it will be printed on stamps. It will be one of four stamp sets that feature skateboards with traditional Columbian or Dine designs.

Worl has worked on large projects before, such as her Native American Heritage Month design, which Google created, or her huge mural in Anchorage. She said that this was the first time she worked with an organization who had no knowledge of formline arts.


She said that it was a difficult moment trying to meet USPS standards for my art and style. “I had to go backtrack and elaborate on the ABCs formline design span>

Worl’s stamp will be out in March and she stated that she hopes to sell them at her store and her brother’s.
