Segments of today’s show
Lily Hope teaches Chilkat weaving to weavers all over the country. She hosts a workshop for weavers that lasts two weeks and aims to make a Chilkat ceremonial blanket in the child-size. This workshop is important because it is increasing the number weavers who can weave full-size ceremonial regalia.
Today’s Juneau Afternoon Lily, two of her fellow weavers, and Andy Kline, Volunteer Host Andy Kline join Lily and the other weavers to discuss the workshop. The culminating “First Dance Ceremony ” will take place on February 1, when 20 robes are being danced.
Extra Note: The robes will be on display at the Juneau Douglas Museum in a special show, “For Our Children”.
