The 2022-2023 basketball regular seasons are now over. Now, the focus is on the postseason for all six counties schools.
Teams must clear the area tournament before they can move on to the state championship. Each tournament will be hosted by the top-seeded boys and girls from each region. Red Level and Straughn host the girls’ brackets. Opp, Florala and Opp will host the boys’ brackets.
On the recommendation of the basketball committee, the Central Board of Control changed the format to allow for area tournaments in areas with an odd number of schools. The “play-in” game in a 3- or 5-team area will be played at either the higher seeded of the two schools. The (2) seed will play the (3) seed in a single game in a 3-team region. The champion would then travel to the (1) seed in order to win the championship. The (4) seed will host (5) in a single game. The winner would then travel to (1) seed for the semifinal contest. Semi-finals, finals, and finals for all four-team areas will be played at the (1) seeds.
The champion and runner up in each area will move on to the sub-regional round, which takes place February 13 (girls), and 14 (boys).
Alabama High School Athletic Association set the admission price at $8 per session. Tickets must be purchased online at http://gofan.co, or via the GoFan mobile application.
