The Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs will play each other at the Super Bowl next Sunday, however only one will be able to claim the biggest prize in football.
There’s a phrase that has been made about Super Bowls. Super Bowl, “Organization, discipline, mental and physical toughness… Everyone has talked about these however few are able to achieve these.” The former 49ers captain Jimmy Garappola said of playing in the Super Bowl, “That’s been your goal from the time you were just a young kid. You’re hoping to be the person who plays at the Super Bowl. It’s the only thing you want to do.”
A few times in the past, I listened to the author as well as Bible educator Beth Moore teach at a conference in Mobile. She explained, “We will live out our beliefs, the things we believe about the bones of our marrow.” Proverbs 23:7 puts it in the following way “As the man thinks in his mind as he thinks in his heart, he will be.” In her lecture she exhorted Christians to believe in God and allow His Word to determine the way we think.
Moore also told her listeners that they can triumph through Him who loves us. (Read Romans 8:37.) Then she called us to live our lives like it. In order to prove her idea she utilized football as an analogy to the Christian life “We are either on the bench, or playing the game, sweating.”
Her message made me realize that there are Christians who are seated in the church pews and do not realize that God has a goal and plan for every Christian to achieve to advance His kingdom. God might require you to become an evangelist or an instructor at Sunday School, or even an usher.
You may also feel defeated by your past sins or temptations Satan employs to get you up. While we fail every time it is imperative to apologize and beg God to be merciful repeatedly and over. Keep in mind that you’re more than just victorious because of Him. It is leveled because of God’s affection for you.
If we had the chance to talk to Paul, the Apostle Paul today I’m sure he’d continue to say, “Press on” (Philippians 3:14) and not quit. The trials and tribulations that we face will throw us off the ledge and hardships will pile up. However, God has provided us with helmets and other protective equipment that is mentioned in Ephesians 6.
There are times when we feel it’s “wait” in training and wondering what God will perform to our life. However, the prophet Isaiah declared, “They that wait upon the Lord will refresh their strength…they will run and not become tired” (40:31).
One of my most cherished films includes “Remember the Titans” in which Beth Moore used a clip from the film to highlight an important aspect. The scene is where referees were making poor decisions to stop the game from going against the Titans. The assistant coach steps out onto the playing field and confronts them, and the defensive team is then called to one another, “Don’t let them get beyond the scrimmage mark! It’s not my intention for them gain another yard today. Never let them forget that night they faced against the Titans.”
The Apostle Paul advises us not to allow the devil to take over our unseen enemy that does not exist in flesh or blood (Ephesians 4:27, 6;12). According to what Beth Moore taught us, “Blitz all night long – happiness comes at dawn.” Enjoy victory by the power of Christ.
