Birmingham, AL –The University of Alabama at Birmingham, UAB Health System and the Health Authority for Health of Anniston (RMC) make the first step toward rural health care by signing an agreement letter to the affiliate.

Ray Watts, M.D. president, University of Alabama at Birmingham, Dawn Bulgarella, Chief Executive Officer, UAB Health System, Don Lilly, Chief Network and Affiliates Officer, UAB Health System, Jay Jenkins, City of Anniston Chairman Regional Medical Center System Board of Directors as well as Louis Bass, President and CEO of the Regional Medical Center System will announce a press conference Wednesday 8 February 2023 at 1:15 p.m. in the Civitan International Research Center, 1719 6th Ave. South, Birmingham. The officials in The University of Alabama at Birmingham as well as The UAB Health System and The Health Care Authority of the city of Anniston (RMC) are scheduled to make an announcement of a significant step to the future health care in the rural areas of Northeast Alabama with a Letter of Intent to join.

In August 2022, RMC announced that they would be launching an strategic exploratory process to find out if a possible partnership could be able to in sustaining and improving access to affordable, high-quality health care in close proximity to the home and help to ensure the continued expansion in Northeast Alabama. Jay Jenkins, Chair of the RMC Board of Directors, did say they were hoping to make an announcement the middle of fall, but it was not a set date.
