Anniston AL —On February 15, 2023, around midnight at night, Anniston Police Department received a call at midnight. Anniston Police Department received a request for assistance from a man who claimed that he was kidnapped and assaulted. When they arrived, officers met with the victim’s adult and began an investigation.
Investigators learned that the incident began in the the 400-block of West 29th Street when the victim was assaulted by three males , who then removed him from the area and transported to a far-off area in Anniston. After being brutally assaulted and struck with a handgun to the head the person was able escape and contacted law enforcement when the situation was safe enough for him to call police. The victim was taken to RMC Hospital and treated for his injuries before being released.
Investigators were able learn the names of three attackers. Demario Lamonte , 24, Deonte Durell Whorton, 25 and Jarmell Antwon Elston, 18, were later identified and detained by the Anniston Police Department and transported to the Calhoun County Jail. The charges and photos are listed below.
Anniston Police Chief, Nick Bowles said “This was not a “stranger-onstranger” incident and there’s no risk to the public’s safety at this time.” He further stated that there were no arrests expected in this particular case however, the investigation is ongoing.
