Calhoun County, AL Calhoun County, Alabama Just beginning to get into the rhythm of the baseball season, Saks gets two-hit shutout from Rucker and downs Anniston; Piedmont slams five home runs
Coach of the Saks Baseball team Wes Ginn said his team is “on the right track” in the early stages of the season, however, being on the right track is a matter of opinion. A team that has a variety of multisport athletes, such as pitchers with bum shoulders after the wrestling season that just ended, is turning around at its own pace. Tyler Rucker threw a two-hitter Monday while Jacori Avery as well as Mason Jairrels tripled as the Wildcats defeated Anniston 10-0 over five innings.
Saks The team, which includes seven seniors with no juniors and four sophomores on the team, have improved to 2-2 in a day after the coaches decided to give the Wildcats as the 10th seeded team in the Calhoun County tournament, scheduled to begin on Friday. “We haven’t had the opportunity to spend many hours of baseball,” Ginn said. “We’ve been working to improve in defense and get the ball on the field. “We’ve performed as I had was expecting us to play early in the season, but we’ve not been able to get a lot of repetitions.”
Rucker took out six batters and gave one walk on Monday. Trent Hopkins and Owen Petty each scored two hits and Hopkins scored 2 runs, and Petty scored one. Jairrels as well as Avery each scored an RBI. Saks had a split in a doubleheader against Victory Christian and has a victory against Anniston. The Wildcats also suffered a defeat against Ohatchee and will be playing the host team of Coosa Christian on Tuesday.
12 PIEDMONT, OHATCHEE 1:Jonah Pike struck two of Piedmont’s home runs. He also joined forces together with the other two pitchers in holding Ohatchee to just two hits. Pike was 2-for-2 , scoring four RBIs and two hits in the game. Pike pitched middle relief and pitched 2 perfect innings, with two strikeouts.
Piedmont also scored the home run also from Kale Austin, Jack Hayes and McClane Mohon. Mohon also doubled and scored three runs in the game. Hayes and Austin both had two RBIs.
The mound was Cole Austin started and pitched three innings, giving up only two runs and an run that was unearned and four strikes. Jake Austin pitched a perfect sixth inning and struck out one. The Ohatchee’s Devin Howell doubled with an RBI. He as well as Jesse Baswell accounted for both of Ohatchee’s hit.
Softball
Pleasant Valley 9, JACKSONVILLE 6,Madison Cromer hit 2-for-4 and scored two runs. Pleasant Valley downed Jacksonville in eight innings.
On the mound, Haylie as well as Lily Henry pitched four innings each. Lee hit five batters, while allowing two runs earned. Henry hit five batters and didn’t allow walks and allowed 2 earned runs. Henry was also 3-for-4 at the plate , scoring one run. Macey Roper went 3-for-5 and scored two runs.
Lee, Jordan Cheatwood, Aubree as well as Emma Harvey had a hit together. Cheatwood scored one run, while Aubree and Rebekah Gannaway both scored two runs..
