Elmore County took a seven-run lead , and handed Andalusia the their first defeat of the year the varsity baseball match at the LBW’s Crum Foshee Field March 3, with a final score of 11-1.

The Panthers increased their record to 5-1 after the win. The Bulldogs lost 7-1.

Brock Herring led off with one hit, but was forced out at the second after Shea Darnell rolled into a fielder’s choice. Following Matthew Stephenson walked, Payton Hall smacked an unintentional sacrifice fly to the right, scoring Darnell in the opening hit. Clark Wood earned a two-out RBI single to give the team an 2-0 lead, however the game ended with Brandon White was thrown out at the plate. Parker Adams started the bottom portion with a double along to the left field lines, but was left at the plate in scoring spot.

Austin Davis took a walk at the middle of the 2nd before hitting a pop-up. AHS starter Jake Coon fought back and ended the inning with Ryals McNeely laced into the double play. Brunson Wilson hit one hit on the home portion of the inning. Hall scored three runs in only 10 pitches.

The Panthers started the game by scoring five runs in the third period and extended its lead over 7-0. Stephenson was the driver, Herring home by hitting a single to the left, and Hall took advantage of Darnell as well as Stephenson. Hall added the 6th run thanks to a ball that was passed that was thrown with just two outs. Garrett Allen followed with an RBI single and scored Wood. The Bulldogs scored with just one run in the second part of the game. Tycamren Jackson singled to right and scored by scoring the RBI double by Adams. Riley Cravey walked and put runners on the first and second, before Hall took care of 2 batters in the following batters to maintain the lead at 7-1.

After a walk and a hitting by pitch during the fourth inning, Stephenson hit Herring by hitting a single through the middle. Hall assisted himself with an out to second base while Darnell took off for the plate, and increased the gap to 9-1. Cody Walsh took over on the mound and ended the inning by striking out and a groundout. Dylan Jackson had a two-out single in the middle of the inning, but was unable to advance after Hall hit off Mason Meeks.

Herring increased an advantage to 10-1, after a single with one out and added Davis. Allen was able to score after Darnell hit out. Mike O’Brien kept the game alive by scoring a single, however, Walsh was able to strike out and the game was ended via mercy rule.

Adams lead Andalusia at the plate , going 2-for-3 and an RBI. D. Jackson and T. Jackson both finished the game with a score of 1-for-2. Cook was the loser and gave up 9 scores (seven earned) with 10 hits over 3 1/3 innings in which he struck out two while walking three. Herring was the hottest player in Elmore County with a 3-for-3 day, scoring two runs. Hall won the game and only allowed one run over five hits over five innings. He was walked once and struck out nine.

The Bulldogs return to the field for three games in Montgomery this week. The games begin on the 7th of March on Tuesday and lasting until Thursday, March 9.
