Calhoun County, AL – The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office was informed by the railroad that the derailment of a train was massive around 6:45 early this morning, within the Iron City area. Emergency personnel were on the scene to ensure that the area wasn’t a risk to the region. Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office Lieutenant, Falon Hurst, advised, “There is not a hazardous hazmat risk and there are no reports of injuries.” Lieutenant. Hurst went on to add, “There are multiple train cars that have been removed from the track, and a significant portion of the track is seriously damaged.”

Because of the position of the derailment, there’s no danger to traffic for drivers who live in the vicinity however, curious visitors are advised to stay clear of the area due security issues. There is no information on the reason for the accident as well as authorities from the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate what led to the train’s derailment.
