On Tuesday on Tuesday, on Tuesday, the Central Council of the Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska released a statement of support for a bill that is being considered by the Alaska Legislature that would prohibit discrimination in the context of gender identity, sexual orientation.


It also states that span style=”font-weight 400 ;”>”Our grandparents fought hard to get the Anti-Discrimination Act and it is our obligation to continue this campaign,” the statement says. It continues by saying that LGBTQ+ persons, which includes youngsters, should be protected and protection.

The first bill to be released in Alaska, lesbian legislators introduced the legislation earlier in March. The bill would alter the term “sex” as an protected class to include LGBTQand identities. The bill is in the Labor and Commerce Committee.


The tribal president Chalyee Eesh Richard Parkerson stated that it was important to show love and support to LGBTQand tribal members.


The span style=”font-weight 400 ;”>”As their tribal president I want them to be assured that they are respected and loved because of who they are,” said the president. “Every year, we witness this issue grow and getting more and more dire Human rights are under threat .”


The announcement is in the midst of what advocates believe are growing threats to LGBTQ+ rights from Gov. Mike Dunleavy’s government.

Recent Anchorage Daily News investigation revealed that in the past year an Alaska State Commission for Human Rights Alaska State Commission for Human Rights secretly changed its decision from 2021 which increased LGBTQ+ protections in the state. On March 7, 2013, Dunleavy introduced an act that would limit Alaska students’ right to be able to conform to their gender identities at school.
