Golden Rule Grill and BBQ of Andalusia collaborated in the LBW Community College Skills for Success program and provided an alcohol and food class on March 19th, Sunday.
Golden Rule owner Christy Turner believed the class was an excellent idea.
“By hosting the class on food and beverages in the restaurant we work at, it gave us with an opportunity to recruit new employees as well as help them find employment in the field of restaurant. Students were able to master everything starting from front home, including serving, hosting silverware, and serving and even at the rear of the home. They learned a lot in the back , including mixing measurements the ingredients, labeling, making vinaigrette, as well as making corn fritters.” Turner said.
She along with their spouse Adam Turner were approached about hosting the class several months ago. “After some discussions and preparations our staff was all set and eager to join in. It was a great way for our staff to understand what they can do to help the restaurant run more efficiently. It it also taught them to respect one the other’s work duties better.”
LBW Director for Workforce Development Chad Sutton felt that the training was important.
“It brought all of Christy’s staff together to ensure that they were on the same page going forward. Everyone on her team has taken part in the training. New employees at Golden Rule can be trained by anyone,” Sutton said.
Sutton stated that the main objective of the class was comprised of two distinct components.
“We decided to train our personnel in the front and the back of the house to ensure that everyone receives the same training and information in the future. This is a great idea to invest in your staff and cross-training. If you ever find yourself faced with a staff shortage you’ll have other employees who are able to fill in the gaps. The second objective was to teach people in the local community to work in the restaurant industry. We were not able to find residents from the community however, I’ll work harder to do that the next time.”
The Golden Rule staff has already received inquiries about another class, and they’re willing to discuss that.
As the owner of a restaurant, Turner takes pride in being able to provide services to the public.
“I am passionate about my community and am passionate about serving my community. If we don’t support one another then who else will? Quality of food is our first priority. We aim to please everyone to be efficient and offer consistent our service. I am extremely grateful for LBW and its dedication to improving the lives of our neighbors by providing free classes as well as providing a fantastic experience at a community college. I recommend everyone start with LBW.” the woman said.
