Calhoun County, AL – Oxford girls get No. 1 seed, five-time defending champion Donoho No. 2 heading into this week’s county tournament. boys will take part in the Isaac Cook Invitational

Calhoun County girls’ high soccer coaches see an upswing in the county’s pecking order. They picked Oxford (5-4) to be the team with the highest seeding going into the county tournament on McClellan. They are Yellow Jackets are 2-0 against county opponents, including an 6-0 win over Weaver and a 3-2 win against Jacksonville and will get a bye to the first round.

Donoho, who has won the last five county championships, has a record of 3-0-1 in county rivals. The Falcons defeated Saks 3-1, Faith Christian 10-0, Weaver 7-0, and tied Jacksonville with Jacksonville 0-0. The girls’ seedings based on the following records 1. Oxford (5-4) 2, 2. Donoho (5-1-1), 3. Saks (8-3), 4. Jacksonville (5-2-1), 5. Weaver (3-6) 6. Faith (0-9) and 7. White Plains (3-5).

With just five teams of boys this season, there’ll no boys’ county tournament. Instead of a county event the boys will be playing at the Isaac Crook Invitational at Choccolocco Park. The event was named to pay tribute to the late Weaver athlete Isaac Crook, who died in the gym on the track of the school in December of 2020.
