Piedmont, AL – Odam announces his that he will not be Piedmont’s boy’s basketball coach and looks forward to following Alex’s college journey in Jax State

Jonathan Odam has enjoyed his view from a sideline during Alex’s basketball journey in Piedmont High School, and the father/coach of his son plans to take in the view from just a few rows higher on the campus of Jacksonville State. Odam has confirmed that he will be stepping out after five years as the boys’ basketball coach at Piedmont. coach. He has said he’s willing to consider coaching other sports in the future however he wants to keep the basketball open for the next season to follow Alex’s career as a player at JSU.

“”I have resigned a few months ago,”” He said. If Alex wasn’t at JSU I would have continued to coach. It’s just not my thing to just watch him play and coach basketball.” The older Odam admitted that he was comparing Piedmont with JSU schedules. If he had maintained his basketball coaching at Piedmont and JSU, he’d be missing at least 10 home games throughout the 2023-24 time frame, to say nothing about road games. Jonathan Odam hasn’t missed one of Alex’s games for an extended period of period of. He posted a record of 109-34 over five seasons as head coach dating to Alex’s 8th grade season. Jonathan served as an assistant to Tommy Lewis for 12 years at Piedmont. Piedmont reached its way to the Northeast Regional every season with Jonathan as the head coach, and was often competing against state-leading Plainview within the class 3A bracket. Alex had more than 3000 points in his career and was three times a finalist for Alabama Sports Writers Association Class 3A player of the year. He was named the as the player of the season for 2022-23. “It was an honor coaching him as well as observe his play from the sidelines,” Jonathan said. “I’m grateful for the help from the administration. Piedmont is a wonderful area, with assistance from the top down to the lowest. It’s a wonderful area. “I’m going to be sad about it, but I’m sure it’s safe with no matter who they decide to give it to.”

Matt Glover has served as Jonathan Odam’s assistant coach and they also worked as assistants under Lewis. “We are extremely grateful for all that the coach Odam is doing for the boys’ basketball program,” Piedmont principal Dr. Adam Clemons said. “During his time as coach the basketball team, boys team has continued to win consecutive championships in the area and regular participation in the JSU regionals. “We are conducting interviews and anticipate announcing the varsity head coach within the next couple of weeks.” It is possible to Find more stories on sports…]
