Calhoun County, AL – Get two of the top sports teams in Calhoun County as Alexandria notches up to the No. 1 in the class of 5A in the season’s final rankings.

Who would have thought that who would have thought that the Calhoun County baseball team would finish the 2023 season as at No. 1?

That’s the situation following today’s release of the last Alabama Sports Writers Association softball and baseball ratings for the 2023 season. Oxford is still No. one in the Class 6A, a spot which the Yellow Jackets have held for one month. Alexandria has climbed to the No. 1 in the Class 5A.

The two teams compete in the county final on March 15th, which saw Oxford beating Jacksonville State University 5-1 on Rudy Abbott Field.

The final rankings are released in the midst of baseball playoffs getting begun. The best-of-3 series in the first round begin today, while the majority begin on Friday. Oxford (29-6) hosts at Center Point, and Alexandria (26-5) hosts Jasper.

Calhoun County has five first-round hosts (area champions): Alexandria, Donoho, Jacksonville, Oxford, Piedmont.
