Piedmont, AL –During the regular meeting of the Piedmont City Council Tuesday evening the council voted to approve the application to sell of beverages during the Strawberry Festival in Piedmont on the 13th of May. Kevin Cunningham of Pinhoti Properties, LLC discussed the festival and why it was important to approve the sale of beer during the festival would be beneficial for the city and also the Strawberry Festival.

The council has appointed Keisha Mitchell as a member of the school board in town. Mayor Baker declared that she’s been on the board for a while and was a great member.

Chief of Police Nathan Johnson gave the police department’s report for March. of March. There were the arrest of 66 people on the misdemeanor side and 77 criminal charges. Police officers conducted 834 officer initiated contact to the general public. They also handed out 43 traffic citations and attended to 6 traffic accidents. Officers were dispatched to 299 requests for assistance that resulted in filing 105 complaints with officers who walked 8994 miles.

The Dispatch Center received 2140 phone calls, dispatched 378 emergency calls and 87 fire calls and also 6 utility calls after hours. The court collections for the month totaled $17,709.67 and the city was able to keep $6544.96.

Chief of Fire Cale Donaldson gave the department’s report for March, which included eight calls for hazardous conditions (no fire) eight service calls seven fire calls, six good intentions calls, 5 false alarms, one special incident, and 51 emergency medical rescue service incidents.

It is the Piedmont City Council regularly meets on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays every month.
