A search to find three Americans and two Alaskans who have been missing together with their sailboat in Mexico’s northwestern Pacific coast since the 4th of April was put on hold according to according to the U.S. Coast Guard said.
In an press release Wednesday the agency stated that the search was put on hold until “further developments” following SEMAR – the Mexican navy and Coast Guard Coast Guard spent roughly 280 hours conducting a search along Mexican’s northwestern Pacific coast.
After scouring nearly 200 000 square miles but finding no trace of missing passengers or the disappearing sailing vessel, authorities decided to end the search.
“SEMAR as well as U.S. Coast Guard assets collaborated on every aspect of the investigation. We could not find information about the 3 Americans who were missing or what could have transpired,” Coast Guard Cmdr. Gregory Higgins said.
The three sailors they were identified by the names of Kerry as well as Frank O’Brien of Girdwood and their companion William Gross — reportedly left Mazatlan, which is a city located on Mexico’s west coast on the 44-foot Ocean Bound on April 4, and were heading towards San Diego.
They were planning to visit Cabo San Lucas, about 224 miles from Mazatlan April 6 to make their report prior to continuing their journey according to it was reported by the Coast Guard said. But there wasn’t any record on the 3 mariners’ arrival from Cabo San Lucas, nor was there an official check-in at their destination.
Interview with San Diego television station NBC 7, the family of William Gross told the station they don’t have lost hope, and that William Gross as well as his sailing companions will be discovered.
“Our wish is for Dad and Kerry as well as Frank to sail into port soon, exhausted and aching, but safe,” the Gross family stated in a statement sent addressed to the local station. “And our hearts be with the two other families that suffer equally during this difficult moment.”
