The Andalusia Office Professionals Association held their 45th annual banquet on Monday April 10 on the premises of Big Mike’s Steakhouse, and elected new officers for 2023-24.

New officers elected included Trece Mays, president Yvonne Sowell as vice-president, Adrianna Carpenter as secretary, Courtney Shakespeare as treasurer as well Kim Johns and Kim Nawlin as directors.

Mays serves as the administrator for Andalusia Manor.

“I’m humbled to have the privilege of serving as AOPA president from 2023 to 2024. AOPA is an organization of office professionals dedicated to creating Covington County into a more welcoming community that is safe for family, friends and neighbors. As the president of AOPA over the last several years, I’ve witnessed the growth of membership and the growth of community outreach. I am happy to be part of an organization which is ready to support the members of our community, and have the chance to help and meet the needs of other people,” Mays said.

Andalusia Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Laura Wells served as the keynote speaker at the dinner. Wells talked about being professional who leads by example and always doing your best.

AOPA began its luncheon in 1978, formally known as its Andalusia Secretaries Association. The group was formed to build relationships with other members that promote mutual understanding and encourage better standards and continuous training in the administrative professional area.

In in addition to naming new officers In addition to electing new officers, the AOPA also honored Jeremie Brewer Shaffer with the title of Office Professional of the Year.

“AOPA is open to anyone employed in an administrative position in a office or business located in Covington County. We aim to be active citizens of our community and contribute to a community that has provided us with plenty,” 2022-23 President Camaro King stated.

The monthly meetings take place on the 1st Thursday each month, at the Tabby D’s around noon. Anyone interested in joining AOPA can reach out to any member of the group. Annual membership fees are $20.
