Fuel Alabama (FuelAL), an attraction and retention programme of Economic Development Partnership of Alabama (EDPA) in collaboration in collaboration with Innovate Alabama, is proud to announce its partnership with select communities to provide summer programs specifically for students in college. The communities that will be partners will provide opportunities for professional development, service and social activities to summer interns across the state, with an emphasis on their experiences outside of the office.

FuelAL connects graduate and undergraduate students to the region and its employers by facilitating events that promote Alabama’s distinctive assets. Interns will expand their network and meet with their peers in professional training, team-building exercises, and much more. Through the program FuelAL can strengthen connections, and establish Alabama as a desirable destination for students looking to develop their roots and establish themselves as professional young people.

FuelAL programs will be held in the following communities in Alabama: Auburn, Birmingham, Baldwin County, Calhoun County, Dothan, Huntsville, Mobile, Montgomery and Tuscaloosa.

From beachside events to concerts in downtown areas, every city has planned a program of unforgettable events that attract Alabama’s Summer interns to celebrate and experience their communities that go beyond work.

“Our 2022 FuelAL Fellowship pilot impacted 17 student interns in a positive manner, however we’re prepared to expand. By partnering with these 9 communities, we’ll help many talented and gifted students throughout Alabama,” said Miller Girvin the Executive Vice President of Innovation and Entrepreneurship at EDPA. “Our aim is to provide our interns with professional and personal resources and opportunities to experience extraordinary experiences that reflect the life of Alabama and hope that they will choose to make Alabama their permanent home.”

To enhance the amazing experiences that interns have in their cities of residence, EDPA will also host an event called a Summer Summit, designed to create and strengthen relationships between young professionals with a passion for community in different regions. Interns who’ve participated in activities in their communities will be able to join an enjoyable weekend together with 40 fellow interns all over Alabama.

This first Summit is scheduled to be a week-long trip to Muscle Shoals, enjoying the outdoor, culture and social interaction the region of Northwest Alabama has to offer. Other Summits, which are designed to be a way for students to get involved as they approach the time of graduation, will be held in the fall of 2023, winter 2023, and in Spring 2024.
