Piedmont, AL –The Piedmont City Council was in regular session in regular session on Tuesday night, and the regular agenda to be ratified including with the agenda and bill for payments to the sum of $326,800.14 as well as two weeks of payroll totaling $145 513.27 to total $472,313.41.
The Council also received the presentation of an official from AVENU. The company is responsible for collecting taxes, business licenses and other income related to local governments and municipalities across the state. They are now collecting tax for Anniston, Gadsden, and Calhoun County. The representative also informed the Council you’ve got a unpaid business licenses and sales tax due to the City but they are not being collected. The Council delayed the vote until its the next meeting to gather more information on specific issues.
In another move the Council passed two resolutions. Resolution #2023-5 allows the City to sign an arrangement with the State to assist the city by providing services for transportation that meet the needs of the elderly and people who have disabilities. Resolution #2023-06 is a Municipal Water Pollution Prevention that adopts the annual report of the Waste Water Treatment facility and states that this Council knows about the findings as well as operation at the site.
The Park and Recreation department had submitted three bids for PPCS Salt Cell Generator and cables for the Aquatic Center . The most affordable bid was accepted by Jim Coleman of Anniston in the amount of $8160.00
The Council approved a new rule that allows residents of the City to speak to Council on concerns. The future is when residents are able to join in with their Topic that they want to discuss, and they will have five minutes to address the Council. Both the Mayor and Council both stated that they would like to hear from residents of the City regarding issues but have to keep the meeting in a controlled manner for that to keep the meeting in order and running promptly.
