Following two years of building it is now complete. Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4388 located in Red Level is set to present its new building in the time of its grand opening on Saturday, May 6 at 12 noon.

The first VFW building was destroyed because of the Thanksgiving Day fire a few years back.

“We would like to encourage all veterans, their friends, and family members to attend to join in the fun. We’ve had a lot of trouble since the fire erupted two years ago but we are eagerly awaiting the beginning of the new building. All of the VFW is delighted to be back. we are hoping to announce to the local community that we’re opening again,” Senior Vice Commander Michael Wright said. “There is many hours of work done by these veterans. They’ve put their personal cash blood, sweat and tears into making the building reassembled,” Commander Tom Stephens said.

The VFW is the only one in Covington County. It is an all-smoking establishment that covers an area of 5,000 square feet. There are a variety of events being planned to celebrate its grand opening.

Lynn Anderson will have a fish fry starting at 1 p.m. Then, karaoke will begin from 2 to 6 p.m. The menu includes catsfish, hush puppies baked beans, coleslaw, French fries and chicken strips, rolls and desserts. Additionally, you can enjoy an auction with silent bids, a 50/50 draw, and door prizes to be won.

“We may try to cut a ribbon with our veterans as well as their families to mark our return into the local community. This has been a lengthy journey for us, however we’re glad to return in full strength,” Wright stated.

The old VFW facility was destroyed in the total loss after the fire, which included everything souvenirs.

“We were faced with insurance and other issues prior to the contractor who built the structure. The members have helped with various projects during the building process within the. It took time to set up the pieces and we’re extremely happy about and are looking to show our community. We wondered what we’d do if we’d be able to complete however the final result is that we now have the doors opened. The post we will write about will be lovely,” Stephens said.

The hours of operation will be Monday through Thursday, from 3 until 9 p.m. and Saturday through Sunday from noon to 9 p.m.
