Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania announced on April 25, that American Apparel has been awarded a five-year deal to manufacture clothing and trousers to fit that U.S. Marine Corps combat and utility uniform.
American Apparel has facilities in Opp, Selma, Oneonta and Centre, Alabama. The contract provides an initial year as well as four options. The total contract amount is $71.59 million, with a potential total of 720,000 uniforms in the course in the duration of.
The trousers are made by Opp. Opp facility. The Selma plant will make the shirts and blouses.
Based on American Apparel President and CEO Chuck Lambert, the contract allows for the hiring of more employees.
“It is a testimony to the dedication and hard work of our employees that makes it possible to keep up our efforts to assist those who wear our uniforms. The company, along with many across America has faced the unique challenges associated with the COVID’s pandemic and record-breaking inflation,” Lambert said.
American Apparel has been in operation since 1987. The company employs about 500 people across its four locations. The company is an employer with equal opportunities.
American Apparel is considered as one of the top suppliers to the Defense Logistics Agency, receiving both gold and silver star awards for being a top provider to the agency.
