A groundbreaking ceremony was held by the Mayor and Council of the City of Tolleson at the future site, 9055 West Van Buren Street of the Tolleson civic center. On June 17, 2021, the ceremony was streamed live via Facebook. This Civic Center will become the new home for the Tolleson Library, City Hall and Senior Center.
The library will have five meeting rooms, as well as a large conference area with Wi-Fi and video conferencing. The library will offer outdoor and indoor spaces for children, as well as a crawler area for babies. The Library will include a lounging area for adults, a meeting and gaming space for teens, and self-service printing, scanning, and faxing. There will also be a self service checkout station, public computers, and a bookstore.
The Community Action Program and Housing offices will be housed in the new senior center. A multipurpose room will be available in the center that can host lunches, daily activities, presentations, and many other fiestas. The flex space will lead to a greenspace and patio. All of the center will be accessible to people with disabilities.
A multipurpose room will be available in the council chambers, which can host many community events. The room will be able to open to a courtyard for indoor and outdoor events.
The Civic Center will also be home to administrative offices, where residents can continue to pay their utility bills and set up new services. This facility will allow business owners to apply for permits and plan.
Tolleson Civic Centre will be our community’s repository of memories. Its statues, plaques and landscapes will display the past. There will also be paths, walkways, and an interchangeable network of murals that are adorned with Tolleson artists. Jimmy Davis, Councilman of Tolleson, will lead the Tolleson Arts Initiative. This initiative will draw on the collective imagination of our community to take Tolleson to artistic heights not before imagined.
“We are excited to break ground on this amazing facility. We believe our residents deserve a state of the art civic center to call their home. Mayor Juan F. Rodriguez stated that we are optimistic that the new Tolleson civic center and our outstanding employees will continue to bring happiness, exceptional service, and joy to our community.
