LBW Community College names second-generation business owner and logger Kevin Kennedy as the 2023 Outstanding Alumnus. They will honor Kevin Kennedy at the annual graduation celebration in Andalusia in May 12.
Kennedy was a 1992 graduate from Brantley High School, attended and earned the degree of Forestry in Lurleen B. Wallace Community College in the year 1995. He is the President and owner Kennedy Logging, Kennedy Logging, Kennedy Forest Products, Partners’ 5 Trucking Company along with RBKK Leasing, located in Brantley, Alabama.
Kennedy has been a fan for the industry of timber since high school, when working with his father. After completing his studies in LBW, Kennedy was employed by Kennedy Logging and in 2001 founded a land and timber procurement company, Kennedy Forest Products.
“Mr. Kennedy’s economic impact of his businesses on our service area is staggering, resulting in more than 60 jobs directly, and many more indirectly,” added LBW president Dr. Brock Kelley.
His love for the timber industry extends far beyond the boundaries of his own businesses and he’s joined with others to ensure that this industry of timber in Alabama Alabama prospers. Kennedy serves on various boards and committees throughout the state, helping other professionals in the forestry field. He is an active board member for the Alabama Forestry Association; Alabama Forestry Association Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama; Choctawhatchee, Pea, and Yellow Rivers Water Management Authority; Swamp Fox Insurance; Forest PAC; and a board member of the First National Bank of Dozier.
He has been the Vice Chairman and Trustee of the Alabama Forest Fund Workman’s Comp for the past 14 years.
In the past, Kennedy had the opportunity to attend an event held in Washington D.C. to speak with Senators and lawmakers to express the concerns of the forestry industry in Alabama.
Kennedy lives with his family in Brantley along with wife Tracy along with their twin children Natalie Jack and Natalie. Jack. He is married to Tracy and has two children, Natalie and Jack.He is a member of the Brantley United Methodist Church.
“We are honored to acknowledge Kevin Kennedy for the title of Outstanding Alumnus of 2023 for the College for his contributions to the area of Forestry,” President Kelley said. “The forest industry is such an important aspect of the economy of South Alabama and it’s due to graduates similar to Kevin that our institution and forestry programs continue to grow.”
The LBW’s Academic Transfer Ceremony will be scheduled for May 12, at 10:30 a.m. The Career Technical Ceremony will be scheduled for two p.m. in Kiwanis Community Center. Kiwanis Community Center located in Andalusia.
