Calhoun County, AL Calhoun County, AlabamaPer the Emergency Management Agency of Calhoun County the Cheaha Challenge Gran Fondo and ULTRA, Chief Ladiga Cruise along with the Time Trial will be returning to Calhoun County on Saturday May 20th and May 21st on Sunday. Calhoun County EMA asks that cyclists be on the lookout in the streets below, and be prepared for delays at the times listed on May 21, Sunday:
HWY 21 – Jacksonville 7:30-8:00 am Cottaquilla rd. 7:30am-9:30am and 11:00am-5:30pm. White’s Gap rd. 7:15am-9:30pm; 11:00 am-5:00pm AL 9 and US 78 7:30am-9:30am and 11:00am-5:30pm HWY 281 from 8:00am to 5:00pm
The following roads is scheduled to be shut down on the 21st of May, 2023 between 7am to 6:00 pm: Bains Gap Rd
Cyclists will be spotted on roads throughout the weekend, however the peak volume of traffic coming from Cheaha Challenge participants will be at the times listed on May 21st, Sunday.
Be aware when driving and ensure that you leave enough space for cyclists. Bicyclists enjoy identical rights and privileges as cars. Alabama law stipulates that motorists must allow minimum three feet of space between their automobile and the bicycle that they are riding on the road. When roads are narrow, and the passage of a buffer of three feet is not feasible be patient and slow down. Wait to pass once it is safe.
