1st June: College for Kids Registration and Orientation Day!

The librarian Ms. Heathcock has been a librarian at JSU for the past 21 years. She assists students and buys materials for library. In her spare time, she enjoys reading to her cats and three dogs. She particularly enjoys reading books for children! She will guide you during the session. please make her a call at “Laurie” (sounds as La Ree).


5 June: Exploring the World of Plants through Nature Drawings

Professor Triplett is a professor at JSU’s Biology Department. Professor Triplett is also a botanist, and an evolutionary biologist. He is a doctor. Triplett is also the curator of the JSU Herbarium, a collection of more than 70,000 specimens of plants. In his free time, he plays Appalachian fiddle tunes and is a student of Japanese. Bryce Lafferty is a professor of the art department. His artworks are based around the natural world and are displayed in The Momentum Gallery in Asheville, North Carolina. He has four kids.


7 June: The My Life in Six Words of My Life in Six Words Julia Tigner

Professor Tigner teaches students at JSU’s English Department. In her free time she is a doctor. Tigner loves spending time with her family and friends. Naturally, she is a sucker for read! She received her doctorate at Auburn University, her master’s degree from the University of Georgia, and her bachelor’s degree from Tuskegee University.


the 8th June Short Histories of the Vikings Kathryn Catlin

Professor Catlin is an archaeologist in the Chemistry & Geosciences Department. She studies the societies of the past in order that we can gain knowledge from their experiences. The Dr. Catlin does research on Viking settlements in Iceland. Her research is supported with the help of National Science Foundation.


The 12th of June: A Julyteenth Celebration exploring the significance of a National Holiday

Charlcie Pettway vann serves as JSU’s Director Office of Diversity & Inclusion. Her mission is to foster the spirit of mutual respect and kindness and a sense of belonging for everyone. they belong at JSU. In 2015 Professor Vann was awarded The National Library Week’s Creating Communities of Kindness contest. She’s also a long-time librarian. Miniya-Grace Vann is the daughter of Professor Vann. She is currently attending Jacksonville High School. Her strengths include tennis and dance. She was selected to perform for the 2023 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade!


15 June: Fun with Children’s Books

Professor. Johns serves as Professor in the College of Education and Professional Studies at JSU. In the years prior to her appointment at JSU in the year 2010, she taught for 11 years at elementary schools in Cherokee as well as Etowah counties. She teaches elementary math techniques and supervises teacher candidates. She hails from Osaka, Japan and enjoys visiting relatives and acquaintances in Japan in the summer.


June 20th: Playground Politics: Voting & Citizenship Ben Gross

Professor Gross is a professor of philosophy and political science at JSU. He is particularly interested in teaching students about Francis Bacon, an English philosopher born in 1561 as well as Jean-Jacquerousseau philosopher from his time in the Age of Enlightenment. In the “Age of Enlightenment” was a period of great political, scientific and philosophical advancement in the 1800s!


June 21st: How to Train Your Dragon (or a Rat)!

Profs. Renda as well as Nall instruct at their respective departments. Psychology Department. As behavioral scientists, their work is focused on the study of animal and human behavior. This past year the researchers Drs. Renda Nall and Dr. Renda Nall have created a the first animal research lab in JSU where students study the psychology of the training of animals. The students in the lab teach rats to do amazing things. Some rats are getting into sports!


22nd June”Nursery Rhyme Remix

Professor Billingsley who is sometimes referred to “Dr. K.,” is an instructor within the English Department. Her current research focus is on ways to better prepare high school students for success in college. She has won numerous teaching awards. She loves real crime, reality TV as well as her fur daughter, named Brady Lee Billingsley Cooke.


June 26th Mycology: Fun-gi made of Mushrooms!

Professor Moore is an instructor of the Biology Department. Professor Moore is an expert in molecular biology as well as a microbiologist. She is interested in the fungi. Fungi belong to the same kingdom as animals and plants. Mushrooms are one type of fungus. Someone studying mushrooms can be described as called a “mycologist.”


July 27th Code Curry: Exploring India through Programming

Professor Gosh instructs within his department in the Political Science Department. He is the director of his department’s Human-Technology Interaction Research Lab (HTIR Lab) in which students and he research the interaction between technology and humans. The results of his research have been highlighted in news outlets that are popular including ABC News and NPR. Professor Gosh was born in India.


June 28th: !Hola! Let’s learn Spanish!

Professor Dodd-Stefen was an instructor in JSU’s Department of Foreign Languages for the past year. She is a teacher of Spanish to students of all ages and has also studied overseas to Spain, Costa Rica, and Guatemala. She also applies her Spanish knowledge as a stage performer.

Professor Calhoun instructs within The English Department. She is a specialist in children’s literature as well as techniques for teaching language arts. She joined JSU in 2013 after she was an instructor over seven years in Weaver the Elementary School.


June 3rd, 2007: Alabama Dinosaurs, Fossils, & Prehistory

Professor Burns is a professor within his department in the Biology Department at JSU. Professor Burns is an vertebrate anatomist as well as a paleontologist. An animal anatomist who studies vertebrate the backbones of animals. Professor. Burns also researches dinosaurs that were found in Alabama!

The Dr. Huang is a marketing professor at the College of Business and Industry. She was named the Teacher for the year in 2022. Her passions include the use of Open AI (Artificial Intelligence) to help local businesses advertise their services and products, as well as helping children develop healthy habits.


June 6: Puppetry Around the World

Prof. Blades is the Chair of Department for JSU’s Drama Department. He instructs workshops in puppetry. The Dr. Blades was instrumental in the design and development of our Children’s Corner. He also constructed the stage that we have in our room!


the 10th of July: Dealing With Stress: Strategies to Cope with Children

Professor Walker and Professor Helms both teach at both the School of Nursing. They have a wealth of experiences in the field of mental health nursing as well as the health of populations. The Drs. Helms and Walker both are passionate about nursing education, with a particular focus on the health education of populations that are vulnerable and that is the reason why that both instructors are thrilled to share their expertise with you.


June 13th, Get Paid using Lemonade

Professor Ward is a professor at the Department of Management and Marketing. Professor Ward is also a Certified Public Accountant. She has been teaching business and accounting courses at JSU since the year 2017. Mrs. Ward is also a two-time student at Jacksonville State University.


17 July: Nematodes Rule the World!

Professor Turner is an expert in genetics, molecular biology and a teacher-scholar of the Department of Biology at JSU. The Dr. Turner leads a team of students who conduct research at The Worm Hole, a research lab which is studying the tiny roundworm C. C.


The 18th of July: Fun with the Solar System

Professor. Weinkauf works as a Professor in physics. She enjoys sharing interesting information about astronomy to kids. Her role is as the Director of Programs at JSU’s Planetarium. She is a huge reader in her free time. She particularly enjoys The Magic Tree House series. Are you familiar with any of these books?


The 19th July keeping you on the Game!

Professor Clark is a professor of athletic training in the Kinesiology Department. Prof. Clark had been an student athlete trainer in the fields of basketball, football, tennis, baseball, and soccer for The University of Kentucky and Furman University.


July 20th: Take a deep breath! Learning Mindfulness Techniques

Professor Maywald is a professor within the Social Work Department. She is a specialist in both children and adults’ mental health, and she assists clients attain emotional wellness. Also, she’s an United States Veteran.
