Invitational for Ms. Wil
Lena Johannson, Weaver’s Lena Johannson, pinned all five opponents at 140 in under 30 seconds to take home MVP honors at the Saks Ms. Wil Wildcat Girls Invitational. Her five pins took her 1 minute, 26 seconds.
The Lady Bearcats came in second place behind Central-Phenix. Central won four weight classes.
It was the second Calhoun County girls wrestling tournament. It was a tribute to Robin Gilliam, former Saks wrestling coach.
“We still call them Miss Wil,” stated Jeremy Waters (an event organizer), a former Saks wrestler who was known as Robin Wilson back then. “She took over our program the second year and kept us together so that we could wrestle,” said Waters.
Mariah Johannson, Weaver’s Mariah won at 122 with two forfeits and two pins. White Plains’ Payton Price won 102.
