Their timing for their visit was just right, since it was the time that Andalusia City Council just this month decided to proceed by constructing an additional speculative building at the Sutton Road Industrial Park. The $2 million and 60,000 square foot construction of the speculative building will be done in collaboration together with the Utility Board of City of Andalusia as well as PowerSouth Energy Cooperative, which provides a business development loan program to distributors of its member.
The guests were welcomed at the hotel in Alabama at the invitation of Southeast Gas’s Vince Perez, director of economic development, as well as Kim Eui-Hoon who is the representative of Southeast Gas in Korea. The group arrived in the region on Tuesday, and shared a dinner with an assortment consisting of Andalusia, Opp and Covington County officials on Tuesday evening. They also went to Andalusia City Hall for a discussion about their projects followed by a windscreen tour of downtown as well as an industrial park.
City officials expressed their gratitude for Rick Clifton of Covington County Economic Development Commission for his help during their visit.
It is reported that the City of Andalusia also had representatives attending this year’s ICSC (Innovating Commerce Serving Communities) in its annual marketplace at Las Vegas this week. They have reported that they had good meetings with potential retailers who could be a good fit for our market.
“It was a positive week for us,” mayor Earl Johnson declared. “We constantly strive to boost the local economy by trying to lure companies that can generate new jobs as well as businesses that will help our community’s goal of becoming a popular place. It’s not often that we are able to tackle both simultaneously.
“We thank all of our partners who partner alongside us each day to ensure this is possible particularly Southeast Gas and PowerSouth,” he added. “We also applaud all the hard work of our current business and residents who trust and are supportive of the community at all its activities.” .”
