Andalusia City Schools Child Nutrition Program (CNP) will provide students with the most nutritious daily nutrition for lunch and breakfast according to the guidelines of the federal government. Schools across America have made improvements to food choices for students and working to teach students to healthy choices both at home and in school. Everything at ACS is baked or steamed, and is never cooked.
The Healthy Hunger Free Kids Act of 2010 mandates the USDA to create nutrition guidelines for “competitive food items” as well as items that are available in vending machines snack bars, as well as a la carte options that are in opposition to school meals that are reimbursable. Additionally, USDA guidelines also require that schools serve more vegetables and fruits, with students eating at least a 1/2 cup serving of fruit or vegetables for each meal that is reimbursable.
