Union Grove Volunteer Fire Department was called to a chicken house fire on Friday night in the northeast of Covington County.


In the words of UGVFD the initial notification of the fire was received around 8 p.m. The firefighters who arrived at the scene found two structures completely engulfed by flames. Tankers and engines were set up to safeguard buildings. The structures of poultry are said to have suffered total loss.


Union Grove firefighters sent a request for a mutual aid to the supply of water and additional engines. Babbie Volunteer Fire Department, Rose Hill Volunteer Fire Department as well as Elba Fire Department Elba Fire Department each responded to the incident. UGVFD expressed its gratitude to these departments, as well as Jay Spurlin who assisted with the operation of the trucks, which allowed firefighters to take on other tasks.


“It is an enjoyable feeling knowing that other departments respond to the call whenever assistance is required. This is what firefighters’ brotherhood and sisterhood is all about: cooperating with each other when help is required and arriving to help even when your department was not involved in the call. Thanks to everyone who participated in the incident,” said UGVFD officials.
