The Covington County Board of Education approved 16 staff items during a regular meeting on June 6.
The board of directors approved:
Resignation
- Caroline Carter as paraprofessional at Straughn Middle School retroactive to the 26th of May
- Amber McKathan as principal at Pleasant Home School effective June 30th.
- Joshua Tyler Ingram as bus driver at Red Level School retroactive to the 26th of May
- Courtney Ingram Williamson as pre-K teacher auxiliary at RLS retroactive until the 26th of May
- Amber Benzee is a lunchroom worker at SMS retroactive until May 26
Transfer
- Andrew Lowery from physical education teacher at Straughn Elementary School to become a physical education instructor in Straughn High School starting at the beginning of 2023-2024 academic year.
- Christy Ann McCall from lunchroom worker at Florala High School/W.S. Harlan Elementary School. She will be a a lunchroom worker for Fleeta Junior High School effective from the start of the 2023-2024 school year.
- Jessica Johns Gibson from physical education teacher at PHS to physical education instructor at SES in the beginning of the 2023-2024 school year.
Employment
- Christy Weaver as custodian at PHS beginning July 1 until verification of any current or new background checks
- Annie Howell as special education teacher at RLS starting at the start of school in the event of verification of the background checks, whether new or already completed.
- Kaitlyn Beverly is a Pre-K Special Education teacher in the central office beginning from the beginning of school subject to verification of any the background checks, whether new or already completed.
- Tricia Livings is a the special education instructor at SMS in effect from the beginning of school subject to verification of any current or new background reviews
- Vanessa Nelson as bookkeeper at SMS starting July 1st in the event of verification of the background review, either new or previously completed.
- Tabitha Sasser as custodian at SHS starting July 1, in the event of verification of any the background checks, whether new or already completed.
- Daniel Brasher as social science teacher at FHS in the beginning in the new school year subject to verification of any the background checks, whether new or already completed.
The board has approved Tony Ingram as principal at RLS starting July 1, subject to verification of any new or existing background assessments. In other businesses:
- The board was able to hear a presentation of the audit reports for fiscal years which ended September. 30th, 2022 delivered by state’s Examiners of Public Accounts. The board’s President Jeff Bailey stated the report said “everything is in order as it should be” as well as “this is the best report we could receive.”
- The board honored students, teams of athletes along with athletes and students from Florala High School and Straughn High School. Photos of the awards ceremony are available in the newspaper’s Saturday June 10 edition of the printed edition.
- The board was presented with a summary on its distribution of the financial statements which have been compared to the latest bank statements by Chief Financial Officer of the school Ressie Gray.
The board has set the date of its next meeting for June 14 7:15 a.m. in Central Office.
