Tuesday morning, Clark County commissioners unanimously voted to ban the sale in pet shops of dogs, cats and pigs.

As local shelters continue dealing with the influx of animals that have been flooding into their facilities, the vote was taken.

Clark County Commissioner Michael Naft introduced the ordinance to the county leaders. Naft stated that Clark County residents don’t know where their pet store puppies came from. “We have overcrowding and then we allow inhumane pet shops to be able bring these animals from another area.”

The county says that the bill will amend Clark County Code Title 10, Section 10.04.222, adding a definition of “offer for sale” and Section 10.04.253 amending definition of’ rescue organization’, Chapter 10.08, Section 1008.140 – sale to animals, prohibiting retailers from selling dogs, cats, and potbellied Pigs; and providing other pertinent matters thereto.”

@pup_daddy Supporters of pet sale bans make claims that every single breeder that works with a pet store is a deplorable abusive person. What they won’t tell you is that theres been a seismic shift and breeding standards. A tremendous amount of innovation & improvement has silently taken place over the last few years. #kathyhochul #nypolitics #nycpolitics #newyorker #mydogmychoice #citipups #animalwelfare #nycdogs #nycpuppy #supportsmallbusiness ♬ original sound – Pup Daddy
