Andalusia High School is the venue for Richard Robertson’s 56th Annual Andalusia Holiday Tournament, which will take place from Thursday, December 8, through Saturday, December 10.
Boys’ Bracket
This tournament is the longest-running in Alabama and will feature eight boys’ teams playing in a double-elimination format. Andalusia will be playing in the four-team girls’ bracket, which was created for this season. Half of the boys’ field will be made up by local county teams Andalusia and Opp as well as Red Level and Straughn. They are joined by Georgiana and Greenville and Hillcrest-Evergreen.
“This has been an annual tradition at Andalusia High School since quite a while, and we are happy for the chance to host it every season. This should be a three-day basketball tournament. There are some great first-day matchups. We have also added some girls’ games to our schedule and will be honoring the 2001 4A girls state champs. Marcus Mickles, Head Coach of Basketball, said that fans are invited to show support for their favorite teams and get the basketball season started.
Five contests in the opening round of the tournament will be held on Thursday. At 2 p.m., Red Level and Andalusia will face off in girls’ play. Then at 3 p.m., Straughn and Straughn will meet in four boys’ matchups. Georgiana (and Monroe County) take to the court. Greenville takes on Hillcrest-Evergreen at 6:30. At 8 p.m., Opp and Andalusia will be in a tangle.
The consolation bracket will be made up of the four teams that lost on day one. They will meet Friday at 2 and 3:00 p.m. Greenville and Georgiana will face off in the second girls’ game at 5:45 p.m. The winners of Thursday’s finals advance to the semifinals at 6:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. the next day.
Contests will determine the final place of each team in Saturday’s tournament. The seventh-place game will take place at 1 p.m., with the fifth and fifth place contests taking place at 2:30 p.m., respectively. The third place contest takes place at 4 p.m. The girls’ title game will begin at 5:55 p.m., followed by the boys’ final at 7 p.m.
Tickets will be sold at the door for $8 per day.
