Today is just two full years ago that my arrival to The Andalusia Star-News.

It’s truly a blessing find a job that I am passionate about and to be able to give back to people in the area and Covington County, as a writer on staff of my local newspaper.

In this regard I’d be interested in reflecting upon my year two. There were lows and highs however I persevered, and have had the privilege of meeting many people who allowed me to talk about their experiences with other people. I’ve struggled with my confidence since I can remember. However, as time went on I noticed that my confidence level was changing to the positive.

I’m not the type to boast but I am happy for taking control for my own health, and shedding weight since the start in the new year. Since then, I’ve been able to get my heart rate and blood pressure back in line and am feeling happier about myself. A healthy lifestyle and the satisfaction of a year here has increased my confidence.

I was able to feel that my first year was a catalyst for me to move into my second year, where I witnessed even more progress and growth. From getting to know new people, to writing articles for our paper and quarterly Absolutely Andalusia magazine, it was a fantastic year. While I’m not an expert photographer, I have tried my best to become better in my photography abilities thanks to the advice of the office’s manager Lisa. Lisa does a great job in her work and I’m thankful for her help. I’m very excited to present my work for the summer’s magazine in July. I enjoyed the stories I created. Be on the lookout for these stories in the next couple of weeks.

In addition to taking photos and writing and videos, but I’ve also been talking with local companies regarding advertising possibilities. Our multimedia specialist for marketing Jakelyn has done a fantastic job since she began three months ago, and has introduced numerous new advertisers. She as well as the advertising director Ruck collaborate extremely well. I also assisted our editor Robert with various projects and tasks. I have been able to manage the e-Edition for each day of the week and I was even able to create two printed editions while he was on vacation. He advised us to contact him for help if needed however we took care of everything and let him relax on the time he earned.

I remind myself each day that God has me here at the Andalusia Star-News because of a reason and how lucky to have learned as much as I can. The only way out from here is upwards. The summer will end before we realize it and the high school season will be back in full swing. The events that are held at the high school level make us think however, it’s also a joy to acknowledge the teams and coaches as well as players who give their all in the sports they enjoy. I’m going to take every day one at a stretch and follow the path it takes me to.

God has been by my side all the way and continues to lead me on this journey of the rest of my life. Two years have gone by in a snap of an eye and I’m incredibly blessed to have an additional year that is full of new growth, unending growth, and a boost in my faith.

Matthew 19:26 states, “With God, all possibilities are feasible.” Philippians 4:13 says, “I can do all things because of Christ who gives me strength.” Who can tell what’s coming up for the year three? Only He knows and this writer cannot anticipate finding out.
