Alabama Football Coaches Association announced Monday its Coach of the Year winners in each category for the 2022 season.

Trent Taylor was named 4A Coach of Year. He will be inducted into Alabama’s High School Hall of Fame in March. He led Andalusia to its third consecutive state title in program history and coached the Bulldogs to that title. After winning the championship in 1977 as a senior, it was his first title as a coach.

Taylor finished his 35th season playing in the AHSAA Super 7 last Wednesday at Auburn’s Jordan-Hare Stadium. He also led this year’s Andalusia to a 1-1 record. His overall record is 267-146, with an 84-25 mark over eight seasons as the Bulldogs’ head coach. After the 2022 season, he is 16th in the Alabama all-time wins list.

Each winner was nominated and recommended by an ALFCA member. The committee then voted on the nominees. The ALFCA Coach of 2023 luncheon will honor each recipient at the Embassy Suites Hotel, Montgomery. Balfour will give the Coach of Year ring and a plaque to each winner.

Meek’s Houston Powell (1A), B.B. Comer’s Adam Fossett (2A), Charles Henderson’s Quinn Hambrite (5A), Decatur’s Jere Adcock (6A), and Mary G. Montgomery’s Zach Golson (7A) were also honored.

In 2005, the Alabama Football Coaches Association (ALFCA), was created to provide a voice for coaches in Alabama. Later this month, the Alabama Sports Writers Association will announce their coaches of the year.

Taylor and Patty have three grown children, Ryne (McKenzie), Tiffany, and Paige.
