  • Juneau Senior Center reopens. Juneau Senior Center reopens

    • After being shut down due to the Covid pandemic, the Juneau Senior Center is now open with hours from Monday to Friday, which include congregate meals as well as meals on wheels (and the new “take out” alternative). There are now activities available such as bridge, yoga in the sitting and ceramics classes in the near future, with more scheduled. For more information, contact Aria at 907-463-6176.

    • The next week, the Oweesta Corporation’s Turning the Tide Turning the Tide Captial Access Convening will be held at the moment in Juneau. This convening will provide practitioner-tailored training on topics around capital access and offers an array of networking opportunities. Together together with Oweesta Corporation and their Alaskan partner at Spruce Root This is the first time they have an in-person gathering. Oweesta Corporation was created 24 years ago to address the shortage of financial and capital infrastructure which hinders economic growth for Native communities. It is the longest-running Native CDFI intermediary providing development and financial services only to Native CDFIs as well as Native communities.

    The Marine Biologist is also a Storyteller and Co-editor for a book due out in the near future.

    “Uncharted The Way Scientists Navigate their own health, research and Experiments of Bias”

    • A new Juneau residence Skylar Bayer has moved to work for NOAA Fisheries. She is the producer of the Story Collider, a fascinating podcast that tells authentic, personal stories about science. She is an ocean biologist who is also a storyteller and science communicater. She is also co-editor for the book “Uncharted: How Scientists Manage Their Health, Research, and Experiences of Bias” about disabled scientists who have encountered a myriad of professional challenges.
