Anniston, AL – With his family, including son of a baseball star, in the stands, Brooks finishes off Anniston City Championship victory in stunning manner

It’s not every day when Alexandria All-Star 11-under Anderson Brooks gets to watch his dad and head instructor play the game. In most cases, it’s the reverse side of the coin.

The younger Brooks stated that he and dad don’t get together to play golf frequently However, he and dad do have this lot to share … They’re each extremely skilled at activities that require hitting the ball with the help of a stick.

While his family sat in the spectators’ gallery, Andrew Brooks sank a 25-foot putt on No. 18 on Sunday, to take his five-stroke win during Anniston City Championship. Anniston City Championship.

The older Brooks put up 7-under 137 (69-68) during the two-day event held at Cane Creek to score his second Calhoun County Golf Tour points victory in the last five events, including the championship in the county last year.

He took on consistent challenger Kevin Daugherty, who closed to within one shot when Brooks made a bogey on No. 13. Daugherty scored a 71-71 -+142 to finish second.

Brooks as well as Daugherty are the two two players on the field who shot below par on both days.

As he explained his bookend achievements at the close of the 2022 county tour as well as fourth stage of the 2023 tour, Brooks looked at his son.

“The more you place yourself in these scenarios the better prepared you will be for these situations,” Brooks said. “It’s the same way I teach him that I tell my baseball players. It’s all about repetitions. It’s about repeating the same repeated motion in the correct way.

“There’s good reps and there are negative reps. It’s about repeating the same exercise the correct way over and over time, and you’ll improve.”

Andrew Brooks typically skips the Anniston City Championship because it is usually held on weekends, when his son is playing. Andrew Brooks was one of the Alexandria 11-under all-stars weren’t playing this weekend, which meant Andrew was able to take part.

He had the lead in the opening round along with Gary Wigington, and the Brooks family which includes wife Leigh as well as their daughter 13 years old Jaycee along with Anderson Anderson attended the end. Andrew Brooks saw them in the distance on the No. 18, with his son in the orange Alexandria all-stars jersey and black-and orange cap.

“I didn’t really think I would be able to anticipate this,” Andrew Brooks said. “When I arrived I didn’t realize at the time that there were people there. As I was preparing for my third shot I spotted them on the other side. It’s always fun to watch them show up and cheer me on.”

Anderson Brooks called seeing his father winning a tournament “pretty amazing.”

They’ve had a number of really cool days at a baseball field. Their Alexandria All-Stars won USSSA state and World Series titles in 2022. They were state runners-up in the previous year and qualified to play in the World Series, with opening ceremonies scheduled for the 12th of July in Gulf Port, Miss.

“I would like to see us achieve the same results as the previous year,”” Anderson said.

Anderson is a center fielder. first base, or pitcher. He also plays a little left field as well.

“He’s an excellent ball player” Andrew said. “We’ve been blessed with a very good group that’s been playing since they were five years old. It’s a lot of very good baseball players.

“Sometimes we don’t let our kids believe that they’re good enough since they want to continue striving to improve their performance.”

What happened when Andrew Brooks hit the 25-foot putt, and the family on his side? Pure zen.

“Honestly I was trying to get it to be lag to the right spot,” he said. “I wanted to slow it to make tap-in easier and the tap did be in.

“It’s an awesome way to conclude this round.”

Daugherty’s team was ahead of Brooks his groups, and Daugherty’s consistent performance proved evident. He did not participate in the Wilfred Galbraith Invitational, but is a second- and two third-place finish at this year’s three events on the tour.

Daugherty started in the Anniston City Championship ranked fifth in tour points.

“I’ve hit it well,” Daugherty said. “For reasons I’m not scoring as often that my hitting. The only thing you can do is keep pushing yourself in that position and eventually, they’ll to come on you.”
