The Covington County road is closed until further notice due to the collapse of a bridge along Padgett Road this past weekend.

Numerous agencies were called out to investigate an accident involving a motor vehicle at Padgett Road, southwest of the Beck community. On arrival, authorities discovered an unidentified log truck trying to cross a bridge made of wood that was stuck after the bridge fell before the truck was able to traverse it. Officials said diesel from the truck could be flowing into the river.

Crews swiftly placed thirty feet of the boom that spills downstream to hold any fuel that could leak into the waterway during the process of recovering the semi-log vehicle. The truck was successfully retrieved and there were no reports of injuries.

Barricades blocking roads that are closed to traffic are in place. Padgett Road is now closed to traffic through until the next time.

Opp Fire Department, Covington County EMA, Carolina VFD, and Conway Deisel/Towing responded to the scene of the incident.
