Wes Laird, an Opp attorney, was named president of the Alabama Association of Justice, an organization of attorneys committed in protecting 7th Amendment rights, elected an entirely new group of officers during their annual Summer Convention.

Laird started the firm he owns with his law firm in Covington County back in 1987. The firm is later renamed Laird, Baker & Blackstock and is a member of Opp. He focuses his practice on personal injury and wrongful death cases, with a emphasis on the trucking industry. He is an executive and sustaining member of ALAJ as well as is a member of the American Association for Justice (AAJ) and was recognized as a top trial lawyer by The National Trial Lawyers Association as the Best 100 trial Lawyer within Alabama. Wes is President of the Alabama Civil Justice Foundation and an active part of the Board of Directors of Southern Independent Bank which he was instrumental in establishing in 2006. Wes is married to Deidra Rice Laird and they have two daughters, who have both been married and working in Huntsville.

Laird comes from Lockhart was a high school student at Florala, LBW in Andalusia and graduated in 1983 from The University of Alabama business school, and a 1986 graduate from The University of Alabama Law School. Laird is currently a partner alongside Laird, Baker and Blackstock with the firm of Laird, Baker and Blackstock Opp has been practicing legal practice in Covington County since 1987. The couple is former Deidra Rice. They have two daughters: Laken as well as Leah.
