It’s time to create back-to-school shopping plans, particularly when you’re looking to get the most value for your money.

The 18th sales tax holiday in Alabama to cover items associated with school will be held July 21-23 in 2023. In 2006, the tax holiday for sales originally was scheduled for August, however, it was changed to July in 2017.

Between noon a.m. Friday 21st, July 21st, through midnight on Sunday, July 23rd, the state will waive the sales tax of four percent on school-related items and clothing. More than 300 counties and cities across Alabama waive local taxes, too. Andalusia along with Covington County are removing sales tax on school supplies this weekend, along with Opp, Florala, and Red Level.

Exempted items include:

  • clothes priced at less than $100 per piece of clothing
  • school supplies worth 50 or less for each item.
  • books priced at less than $30 per book;
  • Laptops, tablets as well as printers, that have a cost of less than $750.
