Sylacauga, AL –The Sylacauga Police Department is appealing to the public to assistance. On July 2 2023, around 11:30 AM, Sylacauga Police were dispatched to a shooting incident at the intersection of Virginia Avenue and Scrooge Alley located in the former Avondale Mill Village. As officers arrived, they discovered that the shooter was Jason Anthony Swain, Jr. of N. Cannon Avenue, Sylacauga, Alabama. Swain was shot and bystanders tried to help him on scene. Sylacauga Ambulance arrived to transport Swain into Coosa Valley Medical Center for treatment. Officers were informed via Coosa Valley Medical staff that Swain was dead due to the shooting wound to his chest. As of now, there are no suspects in the custody.
Sylacauga investigators as well as officers of the Talladega County Drug & Violent Crime Task Force are searching to identify a person of interest at the present time. They will be working diligently to track down the suspect and determine the motive that led to the shooting.
