The Andalusia Public Library will welcome teenagers between 13 and 15 for an additional summer Reading Program known as Teen Tuesday with crafts and activities scheduled.
The APL staff is looking forward hosting the event every month at The Dixon Room.
“We are very excited to see our Teen Tuesdays returning to Andalusia Public Library beginning next week. After the successes of our Summer Reading Program for our young children, we’ve chosen to host teens for a variety of craft activities. All the materials are provided, and there will be no cost for attending. We are hoping that this event will be a huge achievement that will allow us to keep going for the next time,” APL Circulation Advisor Threasa Martin stated.
Reading logs that have 10 of the books are accepted to be awarded prizes during this month. Book Nook Book Nook was updated with computers-connected tables and a peaceful space.
The first event will focus on making friendship bracelets as well as hair wraps on the Tuesday of July 11. The second event will be painting the rocks of our community’s rock snake at an entranceway on the 18th of July, Tuesday. The last event is “Movie Monday” to commemorate the final celebration of summer on the 31st of July, Monday. The three events be held from 2 until 3:00 p.m.
Martin stated that one of the goals of APL is to get teens to visit libraries more often.
“We want our patrons to use our brand new room for young adults that has been renamed”the Book Nook. I did some research into teens’ crafts and asked feedback on the craft when teenager patrons visited the library. They gave positive comments. They seemed happy to participate in these exciting activities that we’ve scheduled. We would like to invite everyone in the teens to cool off with a few cool activities.”
Children’s librarian Caryl Lee Ray is expected to help Martin in coordinating the program.
“We hope for a huge turnout and we are inviting teenagers aged 13-14 and 15 to attend. Parents will be able to drop off their children and then take them back at the end of each day. The program started in the past and we are thrilled to revive it now. It’s a great method to welcome older children to our library and let them enjoy our newly renovated teens’ area,” Ray said.
