The Andalusia City Schools Board of Education are in the process of preparing for next school year, which includes changes to personnel and other issues.

The board voted in favor of five personnel issues which included the resignation Ashley Martin who served as a paraprofessional for behavioral special education in Andalusia High School. Katie Poole, who had worked as an assistant to the physical education department for the primary school,, was accepted to be an instructor in physical education, in addition to AES.

The board also authorized two new hirings. Oleshia Anderson will serve as the new paraprofessional in physical education while Evan Soles was hired as fifth grade teacher, both at AES.

Director Dr. William Shakespeare told the board that most of the positions were filled for the next year, but there is an open STEM position paraprofessional jobs for AES and AHS and the position of a special education teacher at AHS. Shakespeare said he hopes to be able to fill those positions for approval by the board in the next week.

The board also approved and approved a one year probationary contract for the new school’s principal AES. Victoria Anderson was named the principal of the school in May following the departure of the prior director, Brenda Johnson, was promoted to a post within AES’s central office.

A pay increase schedule was approved which included a the pay of an education technology specialist and director of the band.

Additionally, minor changes were approved to the AES teacher’s manual and The AES Student Handbook, as well as AHS student handbook. AHS Student Handbook.

The board set its next meeting to be held on Wednesday 19th July at 6 p.m. in the office of central administration.
