The North boys were 55-35 winners The North girls took the win 55-35, and the North girls came out on top with 48.5-41.5. The team consisting of Rogers along with Southside’s Mallory Brooks won 11 of 18 holes versus South teammates Kara Busbin (Stanhope Elmore) and Caroline Reeves (Andalusia) at Arrowhead Country Club.

The annual AHSAA All-Star Sports Week opened with the golf course on Monday, while baseball began around 4 p.m. The North baseball team is comprised of Alex’s Andrew Allen, Oxford’s Carter Johnson and Piedmont’s McClane Mohon.

The Monday round was Randall’s first chance as coach of this year’s North All-Star boys’ team. The weather cut the round down to nine holes in the year 2019.

North as well as South sides split up into two-person teams that are playing a match-play game. If the teams are tied on the hole, each side gets a half point.

Teams practice on Sundays and this is the place where the majority of coaching takes place.

“We’re working and getting meet people until 7 pm and then we eat on the club,” Randall said. “Coaching is to travel around, get to know the students, observe them play the practice nine, and then keep track of their scores.

“My task is to match them. Who will play with who? Who is the one who hits it wild and long? Who strikes it short and straight? Who is a flamboyant personality? Who is more laid-back? Some of them compete with one another often and do not like each other so who would I want to avoid putting together.”

The remainder of the time involves meetings and discussing the game plan for the course.

Rogers and Brooks have a good relationship and formed a natural pair.

“Me and her performed extremely well, as we had a connection through playing golf in high school in the same group,” Rogers said. “It was really enjoyable.”
