Editor’s Note:
When we visited Andalusia this year we realized we’d found the most amazing hidden gem. We were unsure about whether we’d get accepted or have a genuine connection to this wonderful community filled with rich family history However, you, the gracious people of Andalusia have welcomed everyone with open arms and a sense of love and affection. While we’ve only been for long, this wonderful community was tolerant of us as we are, accents and everything else. We’ve opened Southern Ground Coffeehouse (and Saints Cafe) and you’ve embraced us. You offer us tips regarding lawn and doctor services as well as the best places to buy what we require. You take the time to help us even when you don’t need to. You are as concerned for us, just as we do for us. You are the best example of what it is as a neighbour which we would like to emulate.
My mother passed away suddenly on Saturday. I didn’t know where to start looking for a funeral home, or anything else I would require. After a few seconds I felt overwhelmed. I was thinking I should take my mom back in New Jersey, but she did not want to do to do that. The pastor Ben May and his lovely wife Jen immediately came to our house before she was even removed. They offered prayers for our daughter and felt a sense of peace and security and a sense of connection. The EMS staff as well as the Covington County Sheriff’s Office was gracious and provided condolences. One shared that he lost his mom and I could see the ‘I-totally-know-what-you’re-going-through-look’ in his eyes. The next day was the day my husband’s baptism took place on Stanley Ave. Church of Christ and we went together as an entire family. My mom went every Sunday along with my husband Trip. She loved going. The love outpouring and sweet words for my mom were unexpected wanted, appreciated, and much needed in the at the same time. It was priceless and we will keep this feeling in our hearts for the rest of time.
I’ve received cards, groceries as well as flowers from friends who may not have seen my mom. We’ve met strangers, and walked away as friends as if we’ve known one for a long time, and even being invited to local gatherings such as church services, dinners and so on. This is what’s so special about this location that I am proud to consider Andalusia our home.
So, if you come across people on the streets just be your real and beautiful selves, since you won’t find this in other places today. We’re confident in our knowledge. Every single person ought to be proud of the way you were educated and how you passed on these values in your children. We’ve had children of different ages and they always say”yes ma’am, sir” and simply manners. There are more cities in America are in need of that right now! Thank each other back for an achievement because I’m able to tell you that there’s nothing else as Andalusians. There isn’t a place.
To all our new neighbors and friends in our community My spouse Trip and I would like to say “Thank You” from the deepest of our hearts. We’d be unable to get addresses for each one of you. the majority of us don’t even know the name of each one, but you were so generous as well as made us feel welcome and appreciated. To all those we haven’t had the pleasure of meeting yet, we cannot wait for the opportunity to see you! We will keep this beautiful town and its lovely people in our prayers and daily thoughts. Thank you to everyone for your hospitality and love. I am grateful to you all for making mom’s final day on this Earth special. Andalusia You truly are one of the Heart of the South! You are a great example!
In love with great gratitude, Bernadette and Trip Taylor
