Montgomery, AL –Governor Kay Ivey announced yesterday two $5,000 cash rewards for information that leads to prosecution and conviction of the perpetrators responsible for shooting two Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel at Fire Station 9 in the Norwood Community on July 12 2023. This caused fatalities for Firefighter Jordan Melton and the severe injury to firefighters Jamal Jones.

Governor Ivey added the following statement: “We mourn the loss of Birmingham Firefighter Jordan Melton, who, together with fellow firefighter Jamal Jones, was deliberately killed while working in Norwood Community Fire Station. Norwood Community fire station on the morning of July 12. Firefighter Melton died from his injuries in the evening, and Firefighter Jones is still recovering. I am joining with all Alabamans in praying for the family and friends of Firefighter Melton for their loss and I ask for the complete healing of firefighter Jones. In addition I am offering two five thousand dollars in rewards for information leading to the conviction and arrest of the perpetrators of this crime of treason against two of Birmingham’s devoted first responders. Governor Ivey will issue a flag-raising directive that calls for all flags across this state brought down to half-staff to honor the fallen Birmingham firefighter Jordan Melton once his arrangements are made public.
